I actually have a bit of a discussion on this matter on my website. http://www2.mrbrklyn.com/mercs.html
How much would you like to wager? I'll even pay for PCGS/NGC grading. To wit, I think that coin would be lucky to go MS, much less FB. FWIW, I don't think either one of the OP's coins meet the FB standard at PCGS or NGC.
Sorry Ruben, I didn't realize you were joking. Might I suggest one of these: Or even one of these: :goofer: Have fun...Mike p.s. I try very hard to be a man of my word, so if you want to send it to PCGS, with our without the bet, I'll pay.
how did you take that photo. That is the sharpest photo of a dime I'd ever seen and I struggle with these Mercs. Ruben
that would kill the satire but you can bet I see the difference between a great AU dime and an MS67 Ruben
Sorry, but I would bet against you, big time. never mind,. I just read the rest of the thread, and saw that you were kidding. [next time put a LOL in there somewhere.] (it must be that Brooklyn humor, and I missed it, or it may be the hat.)
Well Frank, the coin has obvious WEAR. I thiink your think I would notice that. It has nice bands though. Ruben
Thanks to folks here at CT and a little internet research, I got a Sony cybershot. Macro setting with a tripod. Easy, right out of the box ready to shoot! I use natural sunlight and the crop/balance program that came with the camera. I'm quite happy with it.
I really believe that the full bands hype is a little over emphasized. I would venture to say that a majority of Mercury Dimes are originally struck without full bands in all three places, and are not always a sign of wear. When you check out a price guide, they always list with or without full bands like they are so plentiful. I feel that this is something that is widely promoted by the big dealers ect. So they can overcharge us for their merchandise. Just my take on it, let me know what you think ?
Incomplete bands aren't a sign of wear, they're just not struck in completely. Sure, though. They promote it, we buy it.
