Technical 63 in my opinion. Possibly 64. Much better strike on the reverse than average. I just bought one of these last weekend in PCGS MS64 and it's already at my dealer awaiting a trip to NGC to cross it over into my registry set. Dare I ask what you paid for it and if we can see the grade?
I think it's at least a 64. Tough to judge luster on the obverse. Based on the reverse though, I think there's quite a bit still. It may even go 65. Not sure what others are seeing here. Tough to see any contact marks from the pictures.
Lots of small contact marks on the raised sections of the obverse. Otherwise gorgeous coin. My guess would be MS64 on this one, though I can see going 63 as well.
I think you did OK. ICG is always "questionable" by the masses. I don't think they intentionally try to deceive or deliberately grade higher? I'm critical of peace dollars because..well... none are better than mine. I can't have that! I paid $625 for a PCGS in holder this last weekend. I've had a heck of a time finding a good 64 in NGC for my registry set - so I decided to pay a bit of a premium to cross a coin over. The pictures are tough online, but it's a 63 and possible 64 if you sent it to PCGS/NGC. Please consider the price paid for this evaluation when considering the quality of the work.
Yeah from the pic on the auction it looks fine but when I got it in the mail it wasn't so I email the seller and he was willing to refund me. Right now I am not sure yet. I have still some time. I can always transfer to a NGC or PCGS holder right ??
Yes - but is it worth the additional cost for a potential downgrade? Something you need to figure out for yourself. I am not good at some types of coins and peace dollars is one of them.
Before posting my comment, I did click on the picture. After reading your post, I went back and clicked on the arrow and the size didn't increase, the background changed. Anyway, I think you did well at MS64. Do you have the coin in-hand already? If no, let us know your thoughts once you get it. The obverse luster looks a little flat, but that could be the picture. Congrats. I really like Peace Dollars.
What did you find objectionable with the coin once you had it in-hand? Were there more contact marks than indicated by the photos? Was the luster muted? If you don't like the coin AND the seller has a return policy, I urge you to utilize it.
