It's OK. You're absolutely correct and I knew there was a risk, I just took it anyway. I may now be paying the price for that decision. I blame noone except my husband and I. If I can get a bit of $ returned, it would still be appreciated.

I paid in 3 different transactions with links to the coin(s) identified.

I hope you take the advice given and take a step back . Coin collecting is a great hobby but today there are many pitfalls for a newer collector . You should buy from well known dealers or maybe learn with lower priced coins . Most of us have made mistakes that cost us , the idea is to learn from our mistakes . One rule is if it sounds to good to be true it usually is . You could also start a thread and ask opinions of some coins or coin you want to buy . Good luck in your future collecting . If you want to PM me I'll answer anything I can as I've been collecting for quite a long time .

I hear you. I made sure to open the lesser valued ones first thinking that if they were fake, I'd still be able to get my $ back. Unfortunately that doesn't matter to this guy. He's demanding that all be in original condition or no $ back.

As soon as I got the coins opened it was obvious. They were in cull condition... All were absolutely horrible with this shiny fake Indian coin on the end (weight and look was way off) even though the other coins were from the 50's and trashed.

Yes - I feel for you - never fall for that crap - I did ONCE and never again. They word and picture their auctions that you can never win a dispute to get your money back!!

That's what I'm worried about. I can't resell these. If they were potentials, maybe I could consider that as an option, but I won't resell these coins. It would just be wrong.

Probably not - then you would be considered the Jinx - just consider it a lesson and move on from there! You have to learn somehow and a kick in the ass will make you learn ALOT faster!

Well, hopefully Paypal will help to share those losses.

I have seen a number of questionable dealers on Ebay who, I suspect, have salted their shady offerings with slabbed coins.

Definitely use the counterfeit angle. Not only with PayPal but let him know you will do a police report (since selling counterfeit coins as real is illegal and fraud). Put the pressure on full throttle. Make it so bad for him that doing a return is like you doing him a favor.

Also be sure to point out to PayPal (over and over again if you must) that what was described in the listing is not what you received. If the listing said coins are uncirculated and original and you received coins that were "horrible condition and barely recognizable", you have a very good case.

Rip him in the "Feedback" section, give him a negative and explain in the comment area, in detail.

He's agreed to pay for the coins that weren't opened so we are debating it on PayPal. There was no way to confirm them as counterfeits without opening them. Also, he's saying that we have to submit them for grading to prove that they are counterfeits. He refuses to take any dealer's comments, but is unwilling to pay for the grading. It's been a frustrating battle.
