As some might know, i have been obsessing - i mean collecting Web-fed press notes recently. Because of this addiction, i have spent way more then i wanted to BUT then i saw this note .... Checking the consesus of known surviving notes, this note only has 11-20 known notes surviving today I just HAD to have it!!!! its not the best grade available, but with so few remaining - one cant wait too long.
i use this site - http://www.webpressnotes.com/websearch.htm i also have a spread sheet where i have taken all the info from that page, and put it into excel - so i have access to it anywhere i go (i have a Dell Axim x51v that has all my coin information stored in datasheets)
i bought the this new note. I have only found 3 web notes in circulation! only 3. At this point i have 28 different webs, and 52 total... so i have a few duplicates. this new note is by far my most rare web note however.
Since I am mainly into coins, I have no idea as to what makes the note rare! Can someone offer some insight as to what is rare with the note? Thanks...Frank
well, to understand its rarity, you would have to know a bit about web-notes. If you do a search on this site using Web Notes, you should find some thread telling almost everything you would need to know. The posted threads would also include some very helpful links to those who do not know alot about webs already. Once you know a bit about webs, then understanding how this note is only 1 of the 11-20 known to survive would be easier. and of course, if you have any specific questions.. feel free to ask and myself and the many others on this site that know about Web-fed press notes would be glad to try to answer.
Wikipedia actually has a pretty good description of web notes. Just do a search under that. I def. learned something new today.
Jhonn: Thanks for the info, I learned a lot today, but, sadly, now I have more things to look for. My wife will not thank you.
Monti: Yup, I collect a lot of different things, she (my wife) tells people that I have collections of collections.
I don't buy much, but I am contantly searching rolls, constantly looking at serial #'s, so most of my collection was formed at face value, but it adds to the challenge for me, I'm not collecting to get rich (although it would be nice if I found the missing 1913 V nickel in MS70 condition!!) , its a fun hobby that I enjoy.... Ok its an obsession....
Monticello ... i would think that most of us all started by pulling from circulation - thats how the addiction starts it only goes downhill from there
Webs and 295s Let me know when you all start obsessing over Fort Worth 295 errors. About 330 known combinations and I've got about 300. About 2500 notes total so LOTS of duplicates. Oh yeah, got some webs and 129 errors too. Don't see ANY of these three in circulation anymore.
