    I have posted this before but still cant Identify.

    It's a US 'war' nickel from the Philadelphia mint. The '4' in the date, as well as the rest of the coin, is damaged.

    It was cleaned with something harsh. Probably an acid of some type.

    The 4 in the Date is there under a loop.The low areas have a lot of luster.Acid wash? The gray points are the only wear. If the strike was weak I would agree with You.

    Could be a very late staged capped die if it weren't showing in the same manner on both sides. I'm going with environmental damage on this one.
