So I had a long, somewhat tiring, but fruitful day at the Baltimore show. Came away with 15 coins, the first of which I'll share tonight: this bronze of Nerva, Antioch. A marvelous coin if I do say so myself, with an imperious bust and well-centered reverse. So let's post a few coins of Nerva, provincial or imperial
There is no mistaking some busts of Roman rulers, and Nerva is a good example. That's a wonderful portrait.
Beautiful coin, John. I can see why you got it. I'd take it too. A dream coin for me would be a Antioch Tetradrachm but they arent not in my price range
Great coins! I did look for your Lucillas, but came up empty-handed. Not a one in any grade, and I asked every dealer that might have had one reasonably priced.
Harlan Berk told me he's probably got a few examples of each in his safe, but he probably has a few examples of everything in his safe, lol.
That is a nice Nerva, JA! I'll throw in a Roman dupondius which could have better surfaces but has a nice nose and a small prow under the hands.
Nice Nerva, JA => are you gonna light 'er up tonight in Baltimore? I have a cool Nerva to toss-in (great snout profile) ...
Fun holding all those coins, great pick up Big John.can't wait to see the rest of your coins.. I have a denarius of Nerva. Also a As. This was one of the first coin i dug out of a 200 coin lot when i started collecting Ancients.
Wonderful pick-up JA !!! And terrific posts all!! That beaked nose and pronounced 'Adams Apple' have to define Nerva better than anything else. My denarius:
I have a green Nerva As, and a brown As, but my favourite Nerva is a fake. It has COSIII on the obverse, but COSII on the reverse, probably belonging to a Trajan coin. The coin has a myriad of rainbow colours under the scope, and some green which I would like to get rid of, but will have to leave because I don't want to spoil the colours. I know some don't like fakes, but I let my imagination run riot with this one. Ancient Fake Ruler: Nerva Coin: Silver Fouree Denarius Anct Fake IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR PII COS III PP - Nerva laureatte right PONT MAX????? COS II - Pax standing left with branch and cornucopia Wt./Size/Axis: 2.57g / 19mm / - Acquisition/Sale: $0.00 Notes: Jan 14, 15 - Obverse used in RIC 25 and others, reverse used for Trajan. Obverse has COS III and reverse is COS II
