Picked this up yesterday in Baltimore. The reverse appears to be rotated 180 degrees? Or am I seeing things?

(and yes, I flipped the holder vertically before taking the 2nd picture)

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Let us see both sides of the entire slab. Without those pics, you'll get no definitive answer.

With the 3 prong holder, you can get a good indication.

I flipped your photos to show the label at the top of both of them. I see no signs of rotation.
By your flipping your slabs top to bottom, you create the illusion of 180 degree rotation.
I can't get my pics to post.
If you turn the slab side to side, you'll see that one side seems to upside down. That is called coin orientation and that's the way your coin is supposed to be.

Wait so directly flipped over the coins aligned like this? If so it looks normal to me? I agree with @rickmp

This is the one from my type set from which I upgraded:

    I flip them both vertically.
The slabbed one is facing the wrong way.
    What am I missing?

PCGS Photograde shows them all with the "C" opening to the right:

    Also from Photograde:

Looks perfectly normal to me. Don't see anything out of the ordinary in terms of rotation. BTW, it is a beautiful coin--really like the luster and toning--nicer than a lot of MS coins of the same type.

Unless I'm going crazy that coin has medallic alignment. If it was normal, the top prong on the holder wouldn't be touching the top of the design on both sides.

It does have 180 degree rotation.

Doug and I went to Baltimore together yesterday. I saw the coin in person. It's 180 rotated.

Yes, 180 degree. Now, I'd say it adds to the value, because I think any type of error is cool, but it is my understanding that rotated dies were much more common back then.

Yup, a 180. That's a big one. You definitely want to get extra for it.

Rotated 180 is cool doesn't command a big premium but adds to the appeal. Kinda like die cracks

Might as well jump on board... yes, it's rotated, and yes, by connecting with the "right" buyer, it can command a premium. Perhaps not a great one, but the rotation can add to the desirability for the right person.

One of the dies was put in upside-down. Where there is one like that there are more.

I don't understand how anyone does not understand the rotation on this one. I have a $1 gold coin like this. You can get better money for it if you re-submit and have them put the medallic alignment error on the label. Very cool coin!

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on keeping it for a good while. Maybe reslab it someday.

Any chance it would get downgraded from AU55?

It would still be worth it
