I picked this up a few years back at a local coin shop. Honestly do not remember what I paid for it, although I do know it was under 10 bucks. I am trying to put a grade on this, and seem to be vacillating from G to VG. The obverse appears VG, and the reverse to me appears to be AG/G. Feedback from the community would be awesome. Does anyone know of a good book on Washington Quarters that I could add to my library? Thank you very much!
That's a nice DDO, worth more than $10 for sure From what I have seen it is worth around $100, maybe slightly more. Grade looks to be VG, G seems to have more worn rims. Reverse does look G though. http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Washington/Grades
I'd say VG-Fine. There's two books on Washington quarter doubled dies-"The Best of the Washington Quarter Doubled Dies" by John Wexler and Kevin Flynn and an incomplete set of books covering the same subject by James Wiles. Both are long out of print so the values therein are out of date but they are still excellent (especially the first one) for reference. A small minority of the 1934 Die #1 can be found with a massive Class VI (thick, distorted lettering) doubled die reverse. This is, as yet, not recognized as a separate variety but it should be listed as such in the upcoming Cherrypicker's guide.
Awesome, thank you for the book reference. I looked into Amazon, and the James Wiles book appears to be within my immediate budget. I would love to think that this would grade as strong as you suggest.
