I found this 1960 Nickel in my change today after going to the grocery store is it a proof? Sorry I'm still not very good with coin pictures. I have gotten many 50's 60's nickels in change before but none were ever this shiny.

Doesn't look like a proof, but it is a very nice nickel to have been found in change...

    Great find.

Are the fields mirrored/semi mirrored? Shiny doesn't factor. I think you just found a well struck business strike.......

I found a 59 proof in my change a month or so ago. This isn't a proof. You would know right away.

Not a proof, the rims would be much more defined. Still a nice pick out of your change.

Not a proof-- just a reflective business strike.

Gosh, I was almost thinking proof until I read other posts, but I have personally spent several proofs over the years that were just extras, and not worth enough to bother selling to anyone.

I would guess it is a mint set coin.

This is a real cherry. Either a very very picky collector spent it or it just got away from someone. You'd have to look at a few hundred original (seven or eight rolls) '60 nickels to find a better overall strike and quality.

No, it's not a proof. No mirror like fields can be seen in your photo. However, it is a great circulation find. There is a little wear and some bag marks but a great find nevertheless.

The pictures aren't the greatest but I'm going to be the contrarian and say that yes I think it may be a proof.

Not with steps like that. All the 60 proofs I have seen had MUCH better steps.

We sometimes get threads where people ask about their high grade 50's and 60's coins. This is usually the source of them.

Because people are used to the low-relief crap that the mint puts out these days, when they see a high grade coin of the old high relief design, they immediately jump to "proof." On the OP's coin, I see no mirrored fields, the strike isn't at proof-level, and the rims don't look proof. The whole coin "feels" like a business strike (albeit a nice AU one).

As I said I'm not very good at taking coin pictures but It has a mirror like background like my proof ASE. It bugged me so I stopped by my local coin shop this morning and he said it was definitely a proof. Thank you for all your replies...

I was going to say that it sure looks like a proof coin based solely on the Steps.
I'm happy that you got it confirmed!
