I've been looking to fill my book and what drives me nuts is the price I see for Morgans. I'm trying to find 1878-s, 1879-s, 1881, 1882-s, 1884-o, 1886-o, 1887-o, 1890-o, 1896, and 1901, your basic Morgans in the VF to XF range. The assistance of experts like yourselves would be greatly appreciated and no eBay that to me is a joke. Thank you.
Find a dealer in your area. Doesn't have to be a B&M; ask around, even to people not into coins. I don't know where you live, of course, but you might be surprised at what you find.
You can also check the we buy gold places and pawn shops. Most of them know nothing about coins and will basically sell them as silver scrap (though they may have a good premium over actual melt price). I've found quite a few keepers over the years that way including an AU 42/1 Mercury.
Your best bet, if the option is available to you. You're right about your desires - these should be inexpensive Morgans and B&M dealers tend to buy them by the pound from people who thought they were more than they are. You can find them in junk buckets, even. This is one of the pities of the steadily decreasing number of B&M dealers. The larger shows will also have dealers sensible enough to bring junk Morgans (which is what common-date circulated Morgans are to dealers) with them (or may have bought some at the show to get something else with them), and could be mined for specific issues for cheap.
Coin shows and local coin shops. Look through the junk pile and see what they have. Most of the time you will be able to find some of what you need in dates.
I keep watching for shows in my area and it's difficult for me to travel long distances due to my job.
As @Kirkuleez said, I find a lot of silver @ spot prices going to pawn shops and "we buy gold and silver" shops around my city. I have done quite well at these shops. The only problem is I will buy them out of coins/bullion and ot takes forever for them to get more in, obviously because coin collectors usually go to a coin shop to sell coins and bullion. You would be surprised at what you find in those shops. The guy I deal with told me outright "im not a coin guy, I just buy them for silver value". He doesnt want to be bothered with looking up coins for prices.
