Here is yet another tetradrachm for my side collection. I already had this emperor but parted with it to put toward this one.

    Nice chunck !
I've had one for quite a while but parted with it for a big bronze from Antioch ad Orontem. Although I'm happy with the bronze, I still regret my tet

Ok guys & gals I have a question. What makes a tetradrachm?

  18. Cyrrhus

    Cyrrhus Well-Known Member

    4 times a drachm, tetra means 4

Ya. I know that, but what about later with the Roman provincials? Most of my tetradrachms are large silver coins except for a Probus from Alexandria. It is not large or silver.

I think tetradrachm is indeed 4 times a drachm, so weight arround 13-14 grams as also the older Greek coins where, the Roman from Rome/Italy or Levant mostly issued at Antioch or at Tyre(best quality) the one's from Egypt are I think more called Bilion-Tet, different alloy, more for the local system, cheaper to produce but suitable.
