I have found two that I think look good. Could you offer your input and direction. Both are around $1400
11 but need to see the reverse. Also there is 11 D/D http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/145010?redir=t
Technically Saint-Gaudens, with a hyphen, too. I also prefer the 1911-D obverse. If the reverse is as nice as the obverse seems, $1400 for it seems a no-brainer (also with a hyphen).
Definitely 1911 for me, too. What I look for most in this series is the face, especially if the nose is dented or bold. The nose on the 1911 looks bold which is why I like it most.
a) '11 without a doubt (edit: if you post the reverses!) b) What are the grades on these beauties? c) When are you gonna tell us where you found them? ;-)
Need to see the reverse to make a decision. I would say neither based on price. Gold won't be sustainable at the current price.
Sorry. I was torn on the obverse. Here is the reverse. Both are MS-63 Have I found good ones for a fair price?
They are both common dates, and gold is at $1100 an ounce and headed DOWN. Frankly, I think $1400 is high--the numismatic gold market hasn't bottomed out yet, and the prices that the dealers have doesn't reflect the decline in gold. Those coins are not high numismatic value--they are basically older bullion, IMHO. I'd wait for sub $1000 prices.
Fair price? I would say about $1,250 for these is a fair price. By the way, the reverse is not much important to me. Both reverses look fine, but the 1911 rev. does look best.
Where can I find a MS-63 for under $1300? I have been watching ebay. The 1911 and 1914 have 7 sales since the middle of Oct. Average price was $1552 with a low of $1425 and a high of $1675. Both of those are just under $1400.
As far as common date Saint-Gaudens go, what does the jury believe is a fair premium over the price of gold?
At this writing, gold is at 1120. Latest Grey Sheet had dealer bid/ask on common MS63 Saints at 1250/1310 when gold was at 1165. A dealer should be able to make $50 after paying Ask to get you a coin. Based on the above, I'd figure that right now you can buy a very middle of the road MS63 for about $1315 = (1310 + 50) - (1165 - 1120). Nicer looking coins for the grade will cost you more.
