Yes, you see that on 19th century U.S. coins. I see it most often on Bust half dollars, but that’s probably because I look at them more. It’s the result of die wear which occurs as the dies strike more and more coins.

I am an early die state collector, but look at those who prefer cuds and die breaks, and will see other opinions.
