This is an Ike dollar .
I think its the largest dollar the us mint ever minted ...

This one is a TDO and very easy to see, with a 10x .
Even at my age . Lol .....

The Ike is the exact same diameter as the Seated, Trade, Morgan, and Peace dollars. They were all 38.1 mm.

The Flowing Hair and Draped Bust dollars were struck with out a collar, so their diameters could range up to 40+ mm.

Physics-fan posted at the same time as I did (just above) and partly, depending on if you wish to include ASEs, answered the question.

 

ASEs are silver bullion rounds. I definitely do not include them.

Is the smallest dollar an Indian princess ?

 

If I recall correctly, it's the Type I that has the smallest diameter (the TyII and TYIII are slightly larger).

 

I've owned a couple in my day and I think the mints had some issues with them . Maybe a little to small ...

 

So are you going to share with what you think this one might be or not?

Obverse Description: Doubling seen on IN, D of GOD, E of WE and TRUST. Bottom left serif's in the date.

Reverse Description: See pictures. Early die state for hub 1.

Markers: Obverse full R of Liberty. Eye pocket, scratches seen in the field in front of nose and the lobe of the nose above the nostril. Scratches on the R of LIBERTY - see picture. Reverse: Scratch seen between the N & I & and another scratch above the T of UNITED.

Date recorded: 2/23/2012. CD. R158.

Population: 1. Obverse Working die- for Hub 1.. Reverse Hub 1.

Comments: Obverse & Reverse are stage A in EDS. Anacs MS65. small die clash see Eye picture.

 

Thanks. After much hesitation, I went to the site to see what is there. UGH! I'm still not sure of what I'm looking at but a comparison of what you posted from the site shows me that we are looking at the same thing.

Your link shows a reference to IDDDR-WH-1 as the reverse for IDDDO-159.
IDDDR-WH-1 was paired to many different obverse dies.

For example, I have 3 coins with the "C" which was pointed out in the auction listing.

All three have the same doubling yet none of the three are what could be considered a DDO much less whatever the web site is calling IDDDO-159.

Hopefully, since "Die Marriage Does Matter", you got what you paid $38 for but at the very minimum, it was a gamble.

 

Nothing is a gamble when there a return policy in place .
Thats the best part of looking for this kind of stuff ..
I think it will turn out just fine, one way or another .
I've been looking for a 71-S with both side of the coin being doubled and hopefully this one will be that ...

 

When I cherrypick......I never, ever return a coin which turned out to NOT be what I was expecting.
