Hmm. The future of on-line buying and selling? Needs a pause button but it really adds quite a bit to experiencing how a particular coin would appear in hand. Perhaps a several second clip of a coin with the light source rotating throughout.......I spend more time rotating a coin to find the correct shading to capture all the details in one photo than almost anything else. This seems quicker and affords more info than a single photo. Certainly wouldn't dramatically increase hosting costs or download times. I am intrigued, and you are clever.
That's a nice effect--you get a much better sense of relief than from a single picture. Here's something I did a while back--I generated a relief map from focus-stacking, then created a 3D model that can be rotated to give a nice sense of relief:
I'm pretty new to ancients and coin photography. My goal when taking pictures is to try and capture the way the coin looks when I look at it...if that makes sense...I still need more practice with silver and that's a goal for this weekend.
That is very cool. But it looks time consuming to produce.......but still very cool. It is a really great effect
Thanks! It's not very difficult or time-consuming. The focus-stacking software generates a depth map, which then can be imported into the included 3D simulation software, where a video is generated. With the tethering and stacking software, 95% of the process is automated--you just pick the parameters and run the software.
I actually read that book. It is a true story. But sad. They get killed in the end... Oops, sorry for the spoiler.
