Mintage 24000 considered a common date no premium mintage 7500 considered scarce but would be an ultra rare key in any other seated series. Many common date seated dollars have mintages under 50k
Over Rated: Toned Morgan Dollars and what I like to call, "coins struck in a slab". That means all ASE and AGE with first strike or something along those lines, and ATB quarters. Toned Morgans do look cool but I don't understand the massive price increase because of them. Under rated: Early mint sets. I love these things, you can normally get the cheaper then buying the other coins in the same condition and I always make money on them. Plus they are great for error searching
Was just making a comment about toned Morgans in another thread. Me I feel dpl Morgans more overrated then toned ones. I find the series overrated as a whole and ONLY buy them for the toning so we disagree here
Morgan dollars are easily the most overrated. There are too many that are underrated to pick just one.
See, I did it again... Bad time with this curved keyboard. Hey, I have to blame it on something. lol.
This is just my opinion so don't get all riled up. I think the morgan dollar is the ugliest coin design ever!
Lady Liberty looks as if she needs some ex-lax and the damned eagle looks like a vulture ready to pounce on its prey.
Oh come now Bill, it can't be that bad.... While I'm not a dead president collector either, I believe they're a little more valuable than melt....lol.
Comparing four coins: 1916-D Mercury Dime: 264000 minted, 10000 survivors, $2600 in F-12 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent: 484000 minted, 50000 survivors, $1050 in F-12 1895 $2.50 Gold: 6000 minted, 1000 survivors, $325 in VF, considered a common date no premium 1852-O half dime: 260000 minted, 200 survivors , $75 in F-12
Half cents are incredibly underrated, not just overall, but also relative to large cents. Less than 8 million were minted for the entire fricken series. the common dates are priced a little higher than large cents, but not too much. but try to find a high grade problem free example? easier said than done. Braided hair half cents had only ~550k minted total.
I just bought a 1922 no d strong reverse for $375 anacs g-4 with a tiny staple scratch on the reverse. I think I did ok. What do you'll think?
