I'll be at Whitman on Friday and probably a bit on Saturday as well. For those considering going, Friday is really the day to do it. If you go Saturday, plan to get there when it opens. The show is pretty dead by around 3PM on Saturday.
Oh, and to put things back on track, have a great time in Balto guys........I'm gonna make that show one of these days.
I've been there twice for non coin related reasons and absolutely hate the city.... just my opinion of course but I won't go back unless I have to..
I intend to be there on Thursday and Friday. I collect Canadian, Newfie, Irish (my ancestral heritage), Japan pre-WWII (worked there), Vatican (Sede Vacante) and am now after a recent visit to Portugal - am looking at Pedro II through Maria I (Portugal) as well as colonies. U.S. coins focus on Classical Commemoratives.
Public hours on Friday are 10-6. It's crowded, but dealers tend to stick around until close on Friday and on Saturday they start trickling out sometime after lunch. I don't even bother going on Sunday anymore.
Enough ragging on Baltimore. The crab cakes are delicious (though unfortunately I am allergic to crab!). I've lived in the Baltimore area for over 30 years now (moved here right in the middle of the 1983 World Series, as the Orioles were taking out the Phillies). Traffic sucks, but otherwise never had a problem here. I'll be at the show on Friday!
Baltimore USED to be a fine city. Come to Deale if you want a REALLY good back fin crab cake. Check out the Brothers Osborne...
Can't take the riots, junkies, drug dealers, muggers and other thugs? A buddy lives there, he tells me it's a city of distinct neighborhoods that can change from a safe upscale neighborhood to one of desperate living in a few blocks.
Arrived at noon today and was pleasantly surprised to see it was more crowded then usual for a Thursday. My collections are a disorganized mess so I decided I was only going to buy a 10oz silver bullion bullet for my son. A booth by the entrance was selling them for $208.00 or 25% over spot. Provident Metals was selling them for $4.00 - $8.00 over spot but had sold out by 1pm Thursday. Saw a guy with a large travel bag on wheels selling coins and medals to dealers. I stood behind him while he was selling them to dealer for a few bucks each. After a few minutes I couldn't stand it anymore I told him I'm interested in buying medals from him. The dealer immediately interjected, oh no that's not allowed! later in the day I looked for guy but didn't find him. Will probably return tomorrow.
