http://www.ebay.com/itm/ONE-Origina...307092?hash=item2353f34494:g:pnYAAOSwY45URgbu There are many stories of people finding key dates in the description, but for $29 a roll I dunno if I should spring for it. Oh, and on a side note: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Unsearche...944171?hash=item2a5b460deb:g:qq8AAOSw5VFWNqhT OBW!
Let's see 52 rolls sold at $28.50 a roll=$1482 even after subtracting Ebay fee's, etc someone could put a key date problem coin in a roll every once in a awhile and make out still. These rolls as has been stated on the forums over and over and over again are a seller win only deal.
If you actually believe that those are all original and unsearched, then I have some beachfront property to sell you... Nearly every ebay listing that purports to be selling original unsearched rolls, ESPECIALLY if there is a tantalizing date or coin on the end (such as an Indian head, or the reverse of a 1909 VDB), is often just a seller throwing some cents in a roll with a nice one on the end and then raising the price to make a quick buck.
I so totally agree with Blissskr. No matter how many of these anyone has sold it's never been a good bet to buy these. Because of the wrap around the edge you cannot see if there is edge damage and you certainly cannot see the other side of the coin. Stay away from these...please.
I know, I'll stay away. People put a 1909 VDB reverse (no S) at the end of a roll and say OMGZ POSSIBEL 1909 S VDB U-SeArCh when they obviously put it there.
If you know/knew, then why ask? There's nothing wrong with not knowing, and there is certainly no loss of face for asking before jumping in face first. In fact, if more were to do so, perhaps there wouldn't be such a draw to sell salted rolls, so kudos for being smart before wasting your money. Just don't pretend to have known all along if you didnt... there's already a handful here who present themselves are being something they're not and its lame, especially when transparent. Just be yourself
I know they are not original or unsearched. However, I must admit I have bought a few here or there to see if I would be the lucky one to nab a better date coin. I did, one time, get a better date coin (a 1908 S Indian I'd say AU50+). And, since I paid I think $35 for the roll, it was worth it. But, I'd also venture to guess your odds on finding something worthwhile here are slightly less than those of winning at the Vegas casinos... Though, in my case, I'd say I have spent more at the slots and the net loss is larger there.
As Markus stated, old time "looking" rolls are available but also actual paper rolls that are original are available. I have seen them for sale in coin stores, antique shops and flea markets, not to mention roll crimpers which are available on ebay.
