Here's a pretty nice 5 Kopek coin I've got coming in the mail... Date: 1778 AD Obverse: Double-headed eagle of Imperial Russia, banner with Cyrillic legend Reverse: Large wreath; inside initials of Catherine II The Great. 1778 on either side of initials surmounted by crown all in wreath Size: 41.88 mm Weight: 52.7 grams Description: An huge, thick bronze with pattern stamped edges
We must have very similar tastes in coins, first the pan coin, now this! This has been #1 on my list!
Great coin. The Russians knew how to make big coppers. I take it your coin was minted in the Urals, at the Ekaterinburg Mint (E M). I don´t know much about Russian coinage but looked that one up out of curiosity.
Brian, that's a very nice 5 Kopecks you are getting. It is extremely difficult to find those big Czarist Russian copper coins in this condition & higher. Aidan.
Well apparently it's not coming. The dealer just emailed me & even though it was still for sale on his site he'd just sold it on his other site.
Brian, that's a real bummer. It would have been nice to have a nice coin with the Czarist Russian Coat-of-Arms on the reverse in your collection. Are you going to buy something else from that dealer instead? Aidan.
