I was watching 3 of the trade dollars at ha. 1 business strike 2 proofs all brought too much money especially the 76-cc which brought double what it should have
I bid on two items this weekend and have been blown out on both. That 17 1/2 percent buyers fee really narrows the window of opportunity for me. Had good luck a couple of weeks ago on David Lawrence when a reserve got lifted. And no buyers' fee.
Yeh, I subtract out that 17½% at Heritage and Stack's. Plus a bit more for S&H. I got a few nice items from David Lawrence on eBay. I think he'll be at the Balto Whitman show so I'll stop by there. And Gary Adkins, JJ Teaparty and a few others. I suspect my best shot at getting a wantlist item with be from Chris McCawley.
I have negotiated two nice buys from David Lawrence in the last couple of months from his stock on the company website.
One thing for sure (from the coins I have been watching today) PCGS slab prices are strong. Put a CAC sticker on it and look out. I used to try to get coins near wholesale on Heritage. There are a lot of deep pockets out there right now. If you don't mind an oridinary coin there are plenty available at good prices. So far outbid by one increment on 5 coins that I really went after.
This ha sale been real tough. Best luck I had was summer fun show sale stuff was very reasonable. The weekly sales almost been impossible for anything decent. I used to count on stacks weekly sales to pick up some decent stuff wholesale
And there went another by one bid. I sure am glad I set a price and dont' exceed it. I would end up paying way too much if I hit the bid button during the live auction.
I usually don't bid until the live auction especially on major stuff. I lay in wait and nail it at the end
I'm not usually around during the live part. Today is the first time I actually watched. Maybe next time I will give your approach a try. I must have found a couple "problem coins" because I actually pulled off a some wins below wholesale.
