After downloading the obverse side to my pictures, then enlarging the image, LIBERTY is doubled, WE TRUST and the 2 in the date . DDO-002 Coneca ...
Having to enlarge a photo like the one originally posted (50x? 100x?) in order to see doubling makes me wonder if it is worth it to attribute ANY variety that is so minor. It makes me think that the only reason these "variety" services attribute them is to put money in their pockets, and the people who pay for such services are no better than the bidiots on FleaBay. Chris
Its all about the money and you are very correct about that Chris . I can see it now, 20 years have gone bye and single squeeze hubbing has now taken over . I could just amagine what that will be like ....
.....and the sad part is that educating the newcomers to the hobby is becoming a losing proposition. We get the same questions dozens of times every week. Chris
Bingo! I wish that @Peter T Davis would get rid of this forum. Most of the people who use it only care about how much they can make on a sale. They waste other people's time with their greed. Chris
Wow that took quite a turn. It was a pretty simple question then it turn into a feeling of disrespect for some reason. I don't get these extremely minor varieties either, but some collect them for some reason. If you don't like the what's it worth forum, you can block it with your settings.
Bit of a sidetrack from the OP's legitimate question... To the OP - can you show us enlarged photos of what you are looking at? I don't see it in these pics, but the coin looks nice enough.
What are you seeing Dave? If you see doubling on the profile I think it's more reflection than anything.
I actually just replied to the notifications, didn't really look at the thread title and OP. My sincere apologies. My responses are based out of frustration from conversations recently on errors. I've never observed the OP in conversations like that and didn't mean to imply that's what was going on. Sorry @Mojavedave for taking part in hijacking your thread, no negativity meant toward you or the thread.
Well I can only speak for myself im a semi new collector and I do read and I sten especially when Chris speaks and on more than here. Please reconsider doing away.We all are not in this for what it's worth..I decided to collect the Franklin series while I am educating myself knowing that buying ms65 franklins isn't going to turn any profit anytime soon but I truly like all us coins and have much respect for this forum and Chris and all the members that contribute.Thank you...
I'm not putting down @Mojavedave. I think he's a nice guy, too. What I object to is the variety experts who make a mountain out of a molehill just so they can make a buck. How many of their attributions do you think would be accepted by the major grading services? Chris
Most of them. Wiles, Fivaz, and Wexler are the big names in this field - and if they say it is something, it is so. Some TPGs will accept their word at face (such as ANACS - they will label anything that one of them says). Some TPGs are more selective (such as NGC, they decide which ones are the most significant).
I have to disagree with you, Jason. ANACS is not most. I've submitted doubled dies to both NGC and PCGS that have been rejected for being too minor even though some were listed in the CPG. Chris
I think you misunderstood my grammar. Let me rephrase to be more clear: "Some TPGs will accept almost all of the designations by the experts." Anacs is an example of this. The CPG lists a whole lot of minor varieties, and I agree with NGC's decision not to list them. They aren't worth it.
