1819 Large Date Grade Opinions

    My newest coin - what grade would you put on it and all comments are welcome. I really like the coin, have assigned a grade, but want other opinions.

    My grade is trademarked.. I would grade it "lovely" ... now remember .. thats trademarked, so NO ONE is allowed to use that grade from now on :)

    I think the coin would grade VG....is that a die clash I see on the back near the E in CENT??

    Is this a picture of what you are referring to speedy? I see something slightly above the E. I am really not any good at identifying die clashes.

    As for the grade - I listed it an VF20, but keep thinking the hair details could be a little stronger to be a solid VF20. Now I am off to visit the coin store - haven't been there in a few weeks.

    Yeap---that is what I'm talking about but after thinking about it I don't know it would be even if it was a clash....nothing seems to look the same way on the other side...

    FYI, the coin is an Newcomb 2 variety (R-1). Your example shows some neat rusting of the die, too...Mike

    The Sheldon Scale
    R-1 Common
    R-2 Not So Common
    R-3 Scarce
    R-4 Very Scarce (population est at 76-200)
    R-5 Rare (31-75)
    R-6 Very Rare (13-30)
    R-7 Extremely rare (4-12)
    R-8 Unique or Nearly So (1,2 or 3)

    Actually that is what it was listed as - but I did look at coin facts to confirm it. Your post did remind me to update my software.
