..pick up bu rolls of 2007 dimes (if you can find 'em). They are one of the few coins not being offered to collectors by the mint (the mint sells satin and proof but no BU). Some may say cents would be better, but if you look on ebay they are selling cents in box quantity (but dimes are not). I bet they will be scarce in a few years.

look at mintages for 1983 D and P (pretty high) yet they are $300+ per roll if you can find a roll.

It's a safe bet that nice gems are scarce even now and that most of them are in circulation.

Most collectors would be surprised to know how tough some coins made in the hundreds of millions or billions are. Consider that everyone knew that the '82 and '83 coins wouldn't appear in mint sets and had plenty of time to make other arrangements. The number of coins set aside in these years SOARED compared to other years. So how many varieties of 1981 coins do you think were set aside. Considering that '80-D half dollars are rare as gems in mint sets how many can possibly appear in rolls?

There are cases where in all probability not a single coin survived in mint state despite high mintages. Try finding a 1981-D quarter with a type "d" reverse. It seems every day there are more coins coming to light that everyone forgot to save.

In most countries people just stopped saving any new coins after WW II when the silver was removed from coinage. In this country it happened in 1965 and is still going on probably.

That is because the mint did not issue mint sets thaose years.

The current coins aren't in the mint sets either.

At least to the degree that you can tell the difference between the satin finish
coins and the regular issues, they aren't in the mint set.

It cannot hurt to set a roll or two back....they are always worth $5.00 (well minus inflation of course :D ).
