This marks the 46th year in a row that I have overshot my coin budget by quite a bit. Maybe next year......<sigh>.
I really should think about making a coin budget for 2016. If I made one for 2015, I think it's safe to say, I would have blown past it.
If I were to make a 2016 budget it would hold up much like my New Years resolutions. Blown by the FUN show or the April local shows at the latest. I am only in my 5th year of over spending and look up to those with that kind of determination.
Well I spent much more than I had planned. I befriended some great people with great collections and as Mike Wolfe says if you see something you've never seen before you better buy it or you'll never see it again. I'm a toner lover and some of the toning they had in their collections were simply amazing. By far my favorite pickup this year was this one. 1866 Seated Half ANACS AU55 I've seen so many beautiful Seated coins that it almost made me want to switch from a type set to just seated coinage. But there's too many series I enjoy to just focus on one but you never know. I don't plan on buying any additional coins this year or if I do they'll be less than $20 coins that I'll throw into albums to try and complete some of my Dansco books.
I haven't bought much to speak of this year because my money has been redirected in a different (numismaticly related) venture. So I've stayed within my coin buying budget (whatever that is) and have dropped piles of cash on my project. But I think that you will all be happy with what I've been working on all year pretty soon. The big announcement is coming up very soon.
Well, I was pretty much within budget up until a few weeks ago when a few things popped up that I couldn't turn down. And then Some Carver/Washingtons showed up the other day. I was away (till today) and just opened the box........Nice stuff, but now...........
hahhaha---not even close. Well, I guess I could say I am within my budget, as I keep revising it upwards.
I've been very fortunate this year(able to control my buying impulses) and tripped over some nice pieces at more than reasonable prices out here in the "wild west"....
We got the Whitman show in Baltimore coming up. Anyone know of any dealers that deal in raw coinage Barbers? If I can't find anything then I'll get some BU Frankies for the Dansco.
