Because their new and designed for mass production. Not like the careful detail and hand engraving like the draped bust and their new so they don't have time to acquire the rich surfaces of an original 19th c coin. Plus everything too crisp and too perfectly machined

Oh my my. Name calling is so un-tidy.
It almost seems like a contradiction coming from someone who demands tidy posts from others. D-

It is listed in the red book and is considered as colonial coinage. And it's damn good looking

You need to read the entire passage instead of just looking at the pictures. The passage is entitled THE LIBERTAS AMERICANA MEDAL. The medal was designed by the French medalist, Augustin Dupre, and was responsible for inspiring the creation of the Liberty Cap coinage of the United States.

I agree that it is a beautiful medal, but it is not a coin. @longnine009 is just being childish and doesn't want to admit that he made a mistake.

Why thank you. Children are very imaginative. It's an honor to be compared to them. Can we do horses next?
"The stallions of imagination are waiting and stomping and breathing steam in the barn. They're ready to run." Jon Rappoport

    Ye-ha, giddy-yup horsie.

Say, if you ever get tired of fouling the air around your perch, pop down and read post #9 on the first page:

"1. Sorry but a coin can't touch the Libertas Americana medal." [MEDAL]

That wasn't a mistake but intentional. Tough pucks if it doesn't conform to your expectations.

IMHO, you're both being childish with this back and forth. Can we get back to some useful topics and discussion?

If you can't help yourself, possibly you can use the PM function to continue your squabble.

The Standing Liberty Quater beats the Morgan dollar by a mile.

Report it to a real mod if you have a problem with it.

This is a really hard question. These three would be among my top 20 or so, and pretty high toward the top, but my top 3 could vary. I also happen to own these three, so that makes them more attractive. :D

    France 1 Franc "Semeuse" (Sower)

    Mexico Caballito Peso

Well he didn't, but others who were having a good time with the original post did. So here I am , a real mod, who wants to see this stopped. If it continues, then I will have to go back through the pages to see who started it, who continued it, and who didn't stop after this post 53, to see who to ding for the time it takes. I can't monitor PMs unless one of the participants includes me, so argue there and don't include me, and you can go on and on. Thanks Jim

Always loved the design of the 1 franc coins. The French did make some pretty ones. Yours is a beauty

1)Trade dollar. Small details on this is exquisite, probably the most of any circulation coin. Details on modern coins is nothing compared to most 19th century coins, which is saddening. The trade dollar is also heavy with symbolism.
2)Morgan dollar. In my opinion, the very best liberty design. Beautiful and youthful but dignified.
3)Very hard to choose. So many good ones, such as Walking liberty, kennedy half, mercury dimes, etc.
