India. Mughal Dynasty - Shah Jahan (1628-
    -1658). AR Rupee.
    Daulatabad mint.

Architect of the Taj Mahal, a magnificent tomb in honor of his queen Mumtaz Mahal. One of the seven wonders of the world, it was according to legend conceived in a dream he had. These silver coins were written in Persian and most often comes with test marks bored on their surface.

Yup.. Silver. A nice piece without the usual holes and pretty well struck with almost full legends

Shah Jahan also produced square rupees and mohurs.

The Taj was built from limestone blocks.
Limestone is of a cementicious character, and so today, the Taj Mahal is one monolithic structure of a single piece of limestone.
The shimmering white structure in strong moonlight is quite visually unforgetable.
