Have you checked cuds on coins to see if there's a match?

Question: is this really a cud or is it more of a filled die or delamination? I thought cuds were when the edges break off, but if the edge of the die broke off, the coin would have a raised spot, not a lowered...

Rather a good point. Is it an optical illusion that the feature seems incuse rather than a positive?

Well that is one great optical illusion. Could you try taking another photo to demonstrate that it's raised? My brain just can't process it being raised.

OK, I'll buy it. I've seen this sort of optical illusion a million times; it's not your technique.

Cuds are interesting when you have multiple examples. Often you can see them getting larger. The OP's and LZB's are about the same die state, the cuds are very similiar. The one I found shows another small chunk of die has broken off after those coins were struck as it's slightly larger.

Always been a self collector, never discussing coins other than when buying them. Terminology therefore is not a strong point.
I may not be understanding what you all are saying, however: after taking the coin out of the 2x2 a second time, lightly rubbing my finger across the rim, I feel it raise not lower reaching the point in question.
Maybe I have been living an optical illusion my whole life and don't know it. lol
