Ya, I was pretty hopeful that I would get at least 1 70. I have had worse coins get 70 in the past. None of my medals had a shot at a 70, so I didn't even bother with those.
At least you know how to grade well enough to save yourself some dough. Though I think that there is a difference between a 69 and a 70, it always seems to be a send it and hope for the best sort of deal.
I THOUGHT I knew how to tell a 70! haha. These reverse proofs are hard... the proof part is very hard to tell if there are any hits.
It's not just you, I bet that if you cracked out ten 70s and sent them in that you would have half or less returned as 70s. BTW, it's usually a small amount of missing frost that will determine if a proof is a 70 or not.
That's why these 5 were picked... they had the most consistent frost. A few had a TINY spot or two, but like I said, I was hoping those would be 69s and the best 2 would be 70.
It's not just about the "skin" of the coin, you also have to consider the edge lettering & strike Quality.I also noticed the difference on the kennedy sets from the first 25,000 they shipped out, to the ones they shipped later. The second shipments were much better. You can really see the difference in the silver metal background where it looks like a burlap bag.Not so much on the second shipment.
