The coin is scanned, and in a cellophane 2x2. It does not appear to have been cleaned. Picked this up recently.
If you only have a scanner, and you tell us up front it isn't cleaned, then probably the only opinion we can give you is whether it is genuine or not... So yeah, here is my opinion on this coin: It looks genuine.
The Coin is definitely genuine, purchased from a very reputable dealer. I was wondering what it may grade at. It is not cleaned, at least no marks under microscope.
Markus1959, very new here so I don't know if your trying to be funny or if you indeed know that the coin is cleaned? If you know it has been cleaned, that information would be helpful in the future. If you are here just to put down new members and pieces of their collections, you are well known member this new member can do without.
The results of the picture because it was scanned do appear to have been cleaned, he was hinting that it was harshly cleaned. Since you stated that it does not look cleaned, I'll accept that. However, look at the posted pictures, the coin looks cleaned there. That is the advantage of photos, more realistic, most of the times, and for future reference, pictures thru the 2X2 holders are pretty useless to be able to tell details and whether or not the coin was cleaned. The plastic gives off a reflection that hides many details. That said, accepting that it is not cleaned, I'd say XF+
Thank you Treasurehunt, understand what I am asking may be difficult. That's why I stated in the original post the 2x2 and did not appear cleaned. All my coins are in 2x2's or folders and labeled, that being the reason I hate to take them out, I would have to re-label them. Your explanation was much more fair and reasonable.
Also, please note that I also remove mine form the 2X2's, just remove one staple to the side, I slide out the coin, put it on top of the 2X2, take my pictures, and put it back in, then re-staple it. The advantage, to me, is that the info that I need is then visible on the 2X2 in the background, without taking away from the details or the coin. also, I am too lazy to re-label the flip.
Jesus Christ (I'm not promoting religion) - just trying to say it looked dipped as it is too shiny looking but no fine scratch lines on it from whizzing. Lighten up and start reading other posts & replies other than just yours to get a feel of people on this site and what they mean. Sorry if you took it the wrong way - no harm intended!
Xf 40. Surfaces hard to tell from pic. Look glaringly wrong and too glossy. But if that's just the pic and scan and a nice original gray in hand then it would probably grade 40. Definitely real tho
genuine, xf, and can't tell anything from scans about surface condition except that it probably hasn't been cleaned with Brillo or a belt sander. Seriously, if it has original surfaces it is a really nice coin.
Unfortunately, that coin has been harshly cleaned (probably polished). It's genuine, and it has EF details - but it has definitely been cleaned. Even allowing for the fact that this is a scan, that coin appears to have been mistreated. If you can return it, that would be best. (Side note: if you think those are original surfaces, and you didn't think it was cleaned, I highly recommend you read some threads here focused on original surfaces, and pick up my book about grading. There is a chapter about surfaces.)
It looks cleaned to me as well. The halo around all of the devices tell me that beyond the glossy surfaces that may just be the result of the scan.
Personally, I think coins that white and shiny are generally cleaned, especially silver at that age. Don't dealers usually slab coins like that? I have bought cleaned coins from a dealer and took them back.
But he scanned it, that's the problem. The fact it's in a flip will only throw off the reflection, but a picture will show if it's there.
