There is one but I just recently consigned it to Agora and Im going to see if they can turn over a few grand for me.
that's an awesome piece LS. i don't have any of these, but yours has nice clear punches...and it looks like they punched every available spot they could
@Loong Siew and @Ancientnoob would love your suggestion (PM is fine) as to where to get a Shakya Janapada. Foothill of the Himalaya. Circa 6th century BC Silver double karshapana. 6.48g. Rajgors 522-531. Ex Dr Alex Fishman. From the homeland and lifetime of the Buddha. Been looking for one I can trust (and of course a good price...)
They rarely pop up. The only source I came across was from Alex Fishman. Even then i recalk he had only about 3-4 left. The other is from Rajgors own auctions. I think I came across Stephen Album in his auction before.
There is one at coinindia on vcoins... http://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/coi...i8_type_pentagonal_superb/424045/Default.aspx For a really inexpensive price of $675
Yea. To be honest. . Even mine was not that much more cheaper than vcoins. These ones come in a premium not just for their scarcity but also particularly due to their association with the Buddha.
Very nice coins in this thread! Buddha - Buddha - Buddha. INDIA, Shakya AR 5 Shana ca. 500-400 B.C. Buddha Coin 6.71 gms, 26 mm x 19.5 mm Obv: One pellet around a central pentagon, ten secondary punches on rectangular planchet Rev: Blank pattern from anvil Grade: Essentially as made. Obverse silver is bright and beginning to re-tone. Other: Minted & circulated by the Indian Prince Siddhartha Gatama who is the prophet Buddha. From Warden Numismatics September 2013.
On a side note, how is the consignment costs on Agora? I need to start offloading some of my coins. Got too many of them, and that doesn't go well with the misses
It will take some time as I have a lot of pressing things that needs to be done in the coming weeks (it is my daughter's senior year in HS). Once it passes, I will definitely get you a list. Have to go through them and see what I can let go. I am too much of a hoarder...
