I just received 20 Franklin commens back with the following Grades from NGC : 6 MS 70's, 8 PF 70 Ultra Cameo, 4 MS 69 and 2 PF 69 Ultra Cameo. That comes to 70% of the coins graded receiving a 70. Is that about the average or am I just fortunate? All my Franklin Commens were ordered within the first 10 - 15 min so I assume they were early strikes. I know PCGS is a much tougher grader for 70's, but am I right around the average or a little better. Please give me your opinion.:goofer: Thanks, BWJR
ordering time has nothing to do with strikes.. they dont mint coins, and then place them in order in a pile, for the first person to order getting the first coin minted.. its very possible the last person to place an order concievably getting the first coin minted ... just a thought... as for the gradings... i dont have access to the Pop reports, so i dont know how fortunate you are in the number of coins grading 70.. BUT consider yourself forunate and lucky to have so many 70's!!! thats cool!!!
Well, NGC's population census is freely available to anyone. Here's the link for the proofs : http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/poplookup-reportlarge.asp?PopSubCatID=73&Designation=PF&page=2& You didn't mention what type of Franklin you have, but for some reason NGC gave a higher percentage of 70s to the Proof Founding Father (76%) than the Scientist (46%). Both types of MS coins showed a great majority MS70s : http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/poplookup-reportlarge.asp?PopSubCatID=73&Designation=MS Founding Father (83%); Scientist (74%).
NGC grading of Modern Commen Here is the breakdown: Founding Father PF- 4 - PF70 - 80% - 1 PF69 Founding father MS - 5 MS70 - 100% Scientist PF - 1 PF 70 - 20% - 4 PF69 Scientist MS - 4 MS 70 - 80% - 1 PF69 Total 14 out of 20 submitted - 70% They all seem to be going for about the same price on ebay. $90.00 - $125.00 each BWJR
