I found this in a roll of halves. Much thinner and lighter than normal half and appears to be all copper. I showed it to a local dealer and he said he thought someone had dipped it in acid. It does have a rough surface that could have been corroded by something but the reeded edge is sharp and fully formed, extending beyond the surfaces of the coin where a rim would be. Anyone have and idea what this is, error or mutilation? d1.jpg d2.jpg d3.jpg d4.jpg

Yeah, someone tried to make this coin look like it's the million dollar coin but it's worth $.50 cents. Spend it fast.

The responses are pretty much unanimous... acid, and I tend to agree with everybody.... but.... I'm trying to understand what acid process would leave the reeds on the edge as the highest part of the rim (last photo). And why the diameter was not affected.
