I've bought $0.03 Silvers from the first four and looked add some amazing coins that Reeded Edge has had for sale.

With heritage it's all on the website, so if there's something - non auction - you want to look at you may need to message them and specifically asked them to bring it.

In fact that's probably true for all five dealers but certainly Vic and Gene - it's just not possible for a couple of smaller dealers to bring everything.

 

At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious, I think your best bet is to steel yourself to hit every table if possible. The places where you know you can find specific issues are also known to everybody else....

For every Heritage at a show like Baltimore, there will be three or four second-tier dealers you may not have heard of, and each of them will have gems in the rough for the sharp-eyed shopper. Look for the stuff people are offering which isn't their specialty, and the coins/dealers which don't get exposure via big-traffic websites.

That's my usual show habit, anyway. On a bourse that large, many times I don't even bother with the dealers who are on my regular online rotation anyway. I've already seen what they have.

Its also easier to do if you're looking for one or two or three specific items. Most dealers will greet you with some form of what can I show you. Not that they're trying to discourage you from browsing but rather that they know their stock and they're just trying to be helpful.

If you say I'm looking for an 1851 New Orleans 3 cent silver in VF or XF they'll either say yes and hand it to you or say "no, I'm sorry".

 

The fun part is finding the stuff you didn't know you wanted.

I wandered away from our table at one show, looking for a nice AU SLQ. Came back with a 1921 Mexico Dos Pesos and two 18th Century Russia 5 Kopecks. Shows are fun.

My advice is hit the smaller shows, the prices paid for a table in Baltimore are high,with little room for a dealer to cut a deal. There's a show this Sunday in Timonium Md . About 20 +/- dealers who have everything you've looking for..... and the tables there are about 6 times cheaper then the one they will pay at the convention center .
