Found in Cullen, Scotland. Can anyone identify it for me please?

    Got it. 1677c still nice to have even if it is common. Not so common to be found in Cullen. Thanks again.

    A factor that is a bit overlooked today, but is clearly evident in archaeological digs of the 16th and 17th century Scotland is that coinage was often rather scarce, and whatever was available circulated. It is not unusual to find French coins, particularly from the mid 16th century when French soldiers were stationed in Edinburgh. Many Dutch coins, particularly low value bronze, were circulated during the 17th century from trade with Holland. The same phenomenon occurs in northern England, Scots coins circulated to some extent, but also various Irish coins and tokens etc. An interesting read in my library is "A history of small change in Scotland"
