Abbasid Caliphate. Caliph Harun al-Rashid AD 786-809 Gold dinars. One featuring Lil Khalifa and the other the name of Jaafar. Harun al-Rashid reigned during the golden age of the Abbasid Caliphate. His prestige and reigned rivaled that of his contemporary Charlemagne. From his court in Baghdad, his reign was a period of Islamic cultural and intellectual achievement. Until today, his fame was immortalized in the classical 1001 Arabian Nights of whom him and his grand vizier Jaafar became part of the characters alongside legends such as Sinbad, Ali Baba and Aladdin.
Nice => very cool addition, LS (sweet goldies) Hmmm, I only have a few coins from this rare-century, but they're all the Carolingian and Constantine gangs ... so I don't really have anything to add to your neat thread => oh but again, those are very sweet additions (congrats)
a coin of this type is on my list (i'll go silver), nice gold coins LS. is the coloration that different between the two coins as the pics? i assume that is lighting. i do have this related contemporary coin.... Arab Sassanian, Tarbaristan (Abbasid) 1/2 dirham 788-789 AD
Thanks... The coloration is mostly due to lighting but also due to the latter in a more worn condition. Thus the gold alloy has turned deeper.
