Can you tell me more about this Southeast Asian coin?

I believe this is from somewhere in the Malaysia/Singapore area but I can't find it in Krause. I think the denomination is 1 keping and it may technically be a token because it has the name C R Read. on it. Since Read has a period that could be an abbreviation. I'd like to know more about it if anyone can help.

It is a token. I found it in the Third Edition of Krause.

 

I got it a few weeks ago on eBay. The seller I bought it from has been selling other similar ones recently I noticed.
