Dansco 8100 album. I think I did pretty well seeing what others were going for. Here's the link http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/191721236883 let me know how I did. Thanks
That is a very attractive album! I am not sure if $70 is a big bargain, though, but I would definitely enjoy having that type of album.
Those albums are always nice to have. Ad said 'partially filled'; let us know just how 'partially filled' it was; any keys?, semi-keys? etc.
I thought the idea of putting coins in a Dansco was to pick out each coin individually, not buy a full or partially full one. Oh well, not for me to judge. I assume filling the 8100 Lincoln cent Dansco could be quite a daunting task. Congrats and keep us updated on the purchases made to fill it.
I too have some Dansco's, but for ASE bullion and Maple Leaf bullion. I like the looks of the coins in the album. I have a 7070 Dansco as well, but I decided to complete it with graded coins instead. I added a sheet in my excel coin file that mimics the Dansco 7070 requirements. As I purchase slabbed coins for the type set, I document them in the slot. Not the same, I know, but with some of the coins that need to be purchased, I'd rather buy them already graded. Maybe one day I'll start to complete the 7070 with circulated coinage, but that day has yet to come. I am a little confused as to why someone would want to buy a Dansco already completed. I know the OP's purchase is partially filled, but I see people selling, for example, a complete Dansco of Franklins. If I wanted to put together a Dansco full of Franklin business strikes, I'd want to pick each one personally. Not buy the Dansco complete. That's just me though.
The photos showed the coins that it came with, I'll give a full list when it arrives (10/26 from what tracking says) but the only semi-key I saw was 1909 VDB. My idea was that I was buying a book and some coins to put in it. I already have most of the collection done so I'll just transfer it. And I'll try to get all the coins it came with to the highest grade I can get at face. I explained why I bought a partial set above but I think there target demographic is people who want the whole set done and don't want the hassle of searching for all the coins. I don't think to many people are actively searching for them anyway.
@Sullysullinburg , I understand your reasoning for purchasing the Lincoln Dansco. My second was more a general statement, not exactly directed at your purchase of the album. To me, part of the fun of collecting is picking out the coin. Finding the right one. That's all I'm saying.
I've bought complete or mostly complete albums of moderns before just because I want to keep the family collection up to date. I just don't have enough interest in moderns to bother hand picking each one of them. I still go for high quality sets though, I'll keep the nicer ones and replace the coins that leave a little to be desired. I just rather spend my time on classic sets.
I think you did pretty good. I like the album and have one myself. Most of the early dates are low grade brown. I agree 100% with you. I bought one and transferred the best I could find from some old Whitman albums that my brother, father and I tried to fill. These were from back in the late 60's to early 70's. Then all I had to do was buy some key date coins and the album was complete. Definitely my most memorable album.
