Just getting around to imaging some world coins I picked up a couple weeks ago. Took me a while to find the correct reference for the first one, but I got it - so enjoy! Austria - 1879 2 Gulden (or 2 Florin, depending on where you look) X#M5 Mintage of 275,000 (.900 silver for an ASW of .7144 oz) *There are apparently varieties with/without dots in the legend. I believe this would be the variety with dots. No idea which is worth more. Wondering what you all think this coin is worth in this condition and with this toning... Germany (Prussia) - 1869 A 2 Pfenning KM 481 Mintage: Unknown *Love the details in this coin. Hungary - 1943 5 Pengo KM 523 Mintage of 2,000,000 Apparently there was a proof restrike, not sure if mine is the original or the restrike. Mexico - 1966 50 Centavos KM 451 Mintage of 1,726,000 *First of 4 I picked up.
Nice pieces! As for the Austrian-Hungarian coin, yes, I also think that yours is the type "with dots". As far as I know, the difference should be "fewer dots vs more dots" Take the "D·G·" for example: The dot after the D should be on all coins, but the one after the G is missing on some. Same thing with the dot after ELISABETHA ... Christian
I suspect that in that toned condition, it should be a 100 dollar item, but its low mintaqe may jump it up to 150. What does Krause say? And where did you get your mintage figure?
From the Krause book of Unusual World Coins. In regards to prices, much uglier ones are listed for $150 or more.
Nice additions. The Pengo reverse is pretty cool. The 50 Centavos looks to have great luster. The Austria Gulden has very nice toning and interesting devices. I also like that Prussian 2 Pfenning!
Would love to hear opinions on what these would be worth from some of our experienced world coin collectors
I like the 2 Florin coin a lot and have owned a few. I still kick myself as I once saw an MS-67 auctioned on Ebay and missed the auction end. It was stellar. Congrats.
