I've not been too active on here lately; being away one week a month really caught up to me in the past couple of weeks and those Multiple Competing Priorities just don't quit sometimes.

So it is very late that I report the latest adventure with the Dollar Coin Changers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. As you might remember, I found using those as being the least expensive way to purchase that bottle of water that I bring on flights. The last couple of times I've brought back a set of Washington Dollars (up and down edge lettering in both P and D mints), and some looking right out of the bag Sac Dollars for Thalia Elizabeth.

So, on my last attempt for a while (my next trip isn't till June), I slipped in a $5 to a change machine and out came:

    - A Canada Dollar ("Loonie"). What? Hey, I can't use these in the vending machines! Loss of the exchange rate between the US and Canada dollar on that one.

    - A beat up 2000-P Sac. That went into the vending machine for the water bottle.

    - Another beat up 2000-P Sac. Also into the vending machine.

Which then failed to work, but when I pushed the "return money" button, did I get my dollar coins back? Nope-- believe it or not, it spit out two dollar bills from the the "insert bills" slot? A reverse coin-changer?

    But here's the good part:
    - A nice looking 2002-P Sac dollar. It has minimal bag marks. I kept this one. I've gotten them at least one other time out of a vending machine, but it's quite unusual.

    - A very nice looking 2004-D Sac dollar. Hey, weren't these supposed to be only available in mint sets? This one looks like it came out of one.

But, unlike Follies Part 3, I didn't get any Presidential Dollars at all. It really is the luck of the draw.

So if you find yourself in the MSP Airport with nothing to do and some money to change, it's worth trying out the change machine. Worst case is you get some beat up Sacs to spend somewhere (on a previous trip, the help at a fast food stand looked very puzzled when I handed over three Sacs).

I go thru the MSP airport on occasions. Are these dollar changing machines or just water dispensing machines? I do not recall seeing any, but I never really looked. I do not normally buy things in the airport.

Doug: I must not have those then... oh no! :D

Mark: The change machines are usually located in the center of a group of machines which include the water bottle (mostly) vending machines, the snack machines, and soda machines:

    Vend | Vend | Change | Vend | Vend

I have always flown in and out of the Lindbergh Terminal (dominated by Northwest) and not the Humphrey Terminal so I don't know about the Humphrey.

I tend to be in either the "C" Concourse or the "A" Concourse and that's where I find the change machines. I know there is one almost directly across from the Dairy Queen near Gate C6, and there are a couple in the "A" Concourse, around A6 and A10 if I recall correctly. (But the A Concourse is a loooooong hike!)

All of the concourses are long there. :) I am usually on the "C" concourse - Lindbergh terminal. I will look for them next trip. Thanks - I will give it a try!

Was in Minneapolis this week and found 1 of the coin changers before I left. Received 1 1979 SBA that was really beat up, 2 SACs and 2 GW's. The SACs were 2000P and 2000D. Will try again the next time just for the fun of it. :)
