Your're very welcome! On the Roman coin. This coin is a commemorative of Constantine I struck by his three sons throughout the Empire. I would need to see the reverse to ID the mint. For the Constantine I coin. Perhaps a few dollars in that condition.
Coins of that period are understudied and under evaluated. It's time to show more interest in them ! Absolutely love the MM and Valentinian Siliqua! Agreed. This was a transitional time from the Classical Antiquity of Alexander The Great, Augustus, and Trajan; to the feudalism and serfdom that would define the next millennium. These coins are little windows into the history of the time period, showing us what the transition period was like.
Here are some of my personal favorites! Magnus Maximus AR Siliqua 2.11 grams Trier Magnus Maximus AE-2 Arles Mint 4.38 grams Magnus Maximus AR Siliqua Treir mint 2.05 grams
Magnus Maximus, I don't know if you go frequently on the BM website. You can see all the silvers (98%siliquae) of you favorite on this adress. By clicking on the picture you can see the description and another bette picture. By clicking again on this second picture you have access the nicest picture of the coin. Then you can work on the similar dies.... http://www.britishmuseum.org/resear...ople=25033&object=23360&material=17775&page=1
@ M.M. I never tire of seeing your Siliquae. I think that you did the right thing sticking with them instead of chasing ALL LRC's. It is what I would do if I had to start again. As you know I don't have any Siliquae and my only Magnus Maximus is this one.
@Magnus Maximus that is a great write-up! I see why he is your CT Avatar Name... I do not focus on Roman Empire, but I do have one of his Follis! Great coins everyone. This follis of Mag Max passed through my store some months ago. Needless to say it was snapped up rather quickly - these are very tough in better grades. The owner of this coin doesn't post much, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it...
