After passing on war nickels for many years I bit the bullet today and picked up this set. I think I did good for $120. The 42 s is had beautiful blue toning and I believe it qualifies for 6 full steps. Sorry for the glare. The scratches you see are on the case not the coins. It appears to be a really nice set. I bought one these sets about a year ago. They were all Mint State, which more than I can say for some these sets, which often have a few sliders in them. I have since upgraded a three of the pieces in the set.

Congratulations! It’s a fun set to have.

Thank you, I am very pleased with this set. Mint state war nickels do seem to be drying up in my area

I see 6 steps. Much jealous.

In hand I'll bet they look even better. I have several sets that are in very good condition, mine are no match for your beauties. Thanks for sharing @NorCal

Very nice set. Looks like they have some nice toning as well.

They are quite stunning in hand. The glare and the scratches on the case makes it tough to get good pics

You need to use some scratch remover on that case and it will show off those pretty coins better!

That’s a beautiful set of war nickels. One of the nicest I’ve seen so well done sir.

They look great. I also really like this set so much I have two sets. One set is raw and one is slabbed, plus a few I found in circulation. Recently I saw sets in MS66 on television selling for $699.00 plus shipping, and they sold them all. That seemed very expensive to me.

The trouble is the costs of shipping and certification are now very high. If these guys are “making” the set sets fresh, their gross margins are not that great. In many cases the cost slabbing might be equal to or very close to the market value of the coin.

    That's a nice set. I also see 6 FS.
I've been working on a slabbed set, in 65-66. Nothing special but it's affordable and fun. 4 down.

Beautiful set in a nice display, which you can switch out for a new one if you desire.

I plan on buying a new display case. I’m thinking a few may be worth sending in to grade.

Yes that is a delightful set. Usually I just see worn, tarnished circulated war nickels. These really stand out.

Can you grade the set as is?

That’s a good question. Buy a new case and send the whole thing in to grade like a GSA hoard Morgan

That’s what I’m thinking. Yes, some are better than others but that is a very nice set and I think it would be a shame to break it apart.
