From the local newspaper, the long running Nevada Appeal.

Finally, a numismatic "event" coin on the West Coast! (Of course shoddy reporting leaves out the grade and reverse pictures - but hey, it's a start!)

In coin collecting there are a few coins that are nearly unobtainable. In Carson City, there are three such coins and two of them are from 1873. Northern Nevada Coin has just purchased one of them, an 1873-CC quarter without arrows for one of its customers in Carson City, bringing home a legendary rarity to where it first began its life.

Good article, thanks for posting. Would've liked to have seen the entire holder for the grade.

The grade is F-12. I saw a picture of it just this past Thursday from a club member who took the picture while he was at Silvertowne.

If I remember correctly three of the other four are MS and the last one is an XF.

Nice story and cool coin. But the coin looks cleaned to me.

I noticed that too. Looks like a little "whizzing" going on. I figured the grade would be cleaned with details.

If it had been a 73 CC W/arrows it probably would have been detail graded.

You know when they are this rare - why not call it what it is? I mean heck the price is still going to be the same in my mind(moon money). Its not like you have a lot of data to figure out what it is really worth.

I love broken cc and go shop there often when I'm up in tahoe on vacation. This is an awesome story.

I seem to remember a story a few years ago too about a cc die that was being used as a door stop at a home in Virginia City that was sold off. I think littelton bought it if I remember correctly
