I imagine just about every Roman emperor has been discussed more than once here, and I started a thread on Jovian one time when I got an AE3.

Someone commented in that thread they'd like one in silver (a siliqua) and I got one recently.

    It is from Nicomedia: SMN.

In US coins various series have "key dates" (such as a 1914D for the Lincoln cent). A US coin can be worth a lot more because it is from a particular year, even if it is 99% the same as the others. Here is a coin of Jovian, and emperor who lasted less than a year, total:
27 June 363 – 17 February 364. This coin is something really different and not 99% the same.

I think it is super cool that you can acquire coins of emperors who reigned about a year or less and they need not be expensive. A siliqua will cost a lot more, but an AE3 of Jovian can be had for $30 or less and $50 can get you an excellent example.

I think this is the first and only siliqua of Jovian I've seen. And it's in wonderful condition. Congratulations. This is my favorite Jovian, but, alas it's not silver:

'Val', That's a wonderful example. Sometime in the future I'll probably get another to make my sole example of Honorius less lonely:):)

Few late romans are better than a Iovian siliqua. Maybe a Procopius siliqua :)

    Very nice indeed!!!
What is the weight of that Siliqua?
I have seen a few Jovians but they are by no means common or cheap:(
    Speaking of Siliqua

That is about right. After the reform of 354 they were supposed to weigh around 2.25g but they usually fall well below that standard.
    :D
    Thanks MZ!
There a few more Siliqua that I will be adding to the hoard soon!;)
