Please help me... show me your nicest coins so I can refocus on gold, silver and plastic LOL Are we still friends...? Anybody who collects both coins & stamps? Do you own a Penny Black?
In response to your thread title: We all do! You need to go to confession @micbraun. Maybe a few "Our Fathers" and/or some "Hail Mary's" will set you right.... OR maybe, this is the start of a trend that will boost Philately out of it's downward spiral! That's a nice looking stamp! OMG, now you've got me doing it....you trendsetter you.
To get you back on the right track try stamps featuring coins. Here is a recent issue from Spain. I gave up stamp collecting years ago. Sold the important part of my US collection for 20k (about 20% of catalog at the time). Sold the important part of my KGVI collection (GB & BC) for about the same. Still trying to sell off the remaining items. The philatelic market has REALLY gone flat. Probably a good time to buy if you think it'll ever get going again. Yes, I had several penny blacks. I was buying the ones with position letters "D/D", my initials.
Falkland Islands, wow! Congrats, micbraun, that is a very nice specimen! I believe both hobbies go somehow hand in hand and there are books that actually combine catalogs for both coins and stamps. Yes, I know, I know... it is somehow a "sacrilege" because coins are coins, always # 1, but in essence they are similar and I "confess" that I have a few stamps as well.
I must confess, old stamps can be very cool, but I don't collect them. I'd rather spend my hard earned $$$ on coins. Hail Mary, full of grace, the lord is with thee...
Yes I do, I also have the two penny that was issued the following year. Don't remember if it was red or blue. Have a couple of WWII propaganda stamps too ad I would like to find some of the counterfeit stamps printed by the Operation Bernard group.

WOW!!! Only 55%. Problem I've found with buying old stamps for postage is that they're generally VERY low face values. Stuff like 3¢.
I have a large but not very expensive stamp collection. My good collection of stamps burned in my parents house when I was moving from one state to another. So did many of my coins. Most of my peace and morgans melted into a large lump of nastiness. That was over 30 years ago. Steam kinda went out of the collecting until the past few years.
I collected stamps as a kid, but when the bottom fell out of the market it was hard to keep up the coection because both of the shops in my area closed. It amazes me that I can still buy sheets from the forties and fifties at face value. I still have my stamp collection but seldom ever look at them anymore. I did have to pick up the inverted Jenny block last year though.
What's the worst that could happen? I do have a Penny Red somewhere... But my pride and joy came from a giant lot auction in which I found this book buried in the bottom. Nobody knew. If you know stamps, you know the 1980 Year of the Monkey. I'd rather have these than a gold Panda!
