Well if its a w57th st pedigree I'm going with ms66 Actual grade of 63 or 64 depending on how the grader saw that cheek scratch in hand
Not sure why it's tricky.... except for the photographs. The Pedigree *SHOULD* have absolutely NO impact on the grade. I don't care if its Eliasberg... a 63 is a 63. The TPGs obviously disagree, and will trip over themselves to bestow ludicrous grades on the latest, greatest collection to hit the market. If you disagree, I refer you to almost every "major" sale of the past twenty years. There is no way on earth that every single Battle Creek deserved a star (not joking - that was the contract: every coin submitted would get a star if they sent it to NGC). Based on the OP's comments, I wouldn't be surprised if this were a Battle Creek and it had a star, even if the label says so. And your coin is a 63 (no star).
They'll credit the pedigree in the market grade if it's strong enough, and that's right out of the ANA market grading standards. Whatever they grade it, I think it's a very lovely coin. I agree with Hommer, it's right on the edge between MS63 and MS64, and that's without any assist from the toning, or the pedigree, whatever it is.
Well, so far, no-one has guessed correctly , hence the TRICKY disclaimer..... And no, it's not due to image quality..... Btw, fizz-fan, I would love to see your PL collection in person. I'm sure you wouldn't allow such a thing, and for good reason. The temptation would be too powerful and I would probably end up back in prison.
There is too much glare on the obverse photo. Really hard to get a feel for it, but for some reason my first thought was AU.
Im Anacs Quebec, THIS IS JEOPARDY!!! ... Doo doo doo doo-doo-doo doo doo...... Doo doo doo doo doo^, nunu nu nu nu Doo doo doo doo-doo-doo doo doo Doo Da doo doo doo.....doo....Doo ba-dum
Garden variety 63 Morgan. Nothing out of the ordinary--a bit of toning, but the 57th street pedigree? Awful lot of those floating around.
I can't tell if Liberty's hair was struck weakly or if it's very slight circulation wear. If it's a weak strike, MS63. If it's wear, AU58. Beautiful coin regardless. (Edited for grammatical correctness)
When ANA made a mockery out of the centuries-old practice of grading coins based exclusively on their state of preservation or condition after leaving the Mint in order to pave the way for a bunch of idiots to grade coins based on how the coins happen to appeal to their emotions as opposed to their intellects they incorporated toning as well as pedigree into those new idiot grading standards, which, henceforth, they decided to call "market grading," I don't know if you ever heard of it, because, they figured, oh hell, who in the hell wants to think a bunch of idiots are grading their coins? Do you understand, now?
