Ha.. I was reading the sentence under your name and avatar and could not figure out what or who a Whovian is! I had to Google to to find out :woot:
Quote - "Doctor Who fandom - The long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who has developed a very large, loyal and devoted fan base over the years. Doctor Who fans are referred to as 'Whovians, or, the Doctor Who Fandom.' The usage was more common among fans in the United States during the 1980s, when the Doctor Who Fan Club of America published the Whovian Times as its newsletter." - closed quote.
    Now I know ;)

I instructed ALL family members many years ago to NEVER buy anything coin related for me. Amazingly, they all listened.

Yeah, but for some reason most chocolate coins (don't know this particular brand) do not taste like superior quality chocolate. :meh:

I tell them to never buy me any coins...however if they want to buy coin supplies such as 2 x 2's as a gift for me then that's cool.

Whenever I receive a gift, I try very hard to appear grateful. It does become hard sometime with well-intentioned coin gifts. One of the things that spurred my collecting was a 1964 proof set (in 1964). Another was when I was leaving a company I worked for in Southern CA, at a going away party I was given a Hawaiian quarter...cool. Other times that have not been so fortunate was when my niece gave me a 1921 Morgan and was kind of bummed that I didn't go all ga-ga over it (although I expressed my appreciation). Finally my daughter (admittedly as a goof) sent me the two coin set of (plated) gold and silver Trade Towers coins that was being humped on TV. Don't have any pics of them, but perhaps I can try and take some.

I've asked my family to get my E-certificates for the US Mint!!

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I did ask my mom to get me the US mint sets. She liked feeling like she contributed to my collection. Each year, she would give me that year's set for Christmas. She got me the sets for all the years of the State Quarter program, but stopped several years ago.

This holiday season I may ask for something related to Seated Liberty collecting... and probably get a potty dollar.

I generally direct family specifically to silver proof sets or ASEs. Hard to mess up an ASE purchase and I will always welcome an ounce of silver.

I was fortunate that my mother sought my advice for buying my dad's Christmas presents to fill out his collections. It gave her cover for getting his advice for mine.
