Found this; its not plated. I inspected it thoroughly. Are there such lincolns in 1982 used as trials? I read that none have been discovered. I understand mercury dipping and how people plate pennies but this one is genuine. Before any pics are uploaded, could someone please answer the question; are there 1982 trials undiscovered? The coin rings like a bell when ring tested

    No! Now post the pics!

I'm sure your coin is a genuine US cent, but it has been plated or coated with some kind of foreign substance in order to change its color.

In 1982 there were two types of planchets used, 95% copper and copper plated zinc, neither were experimental or a trial.

If they are undiscovered, how would we know about them?

He already stated "I understand mercury dipping and how people plate pennies but this one is genuine." and "The coin rings like a bell when ring tested."

OP thinks he has found the holy grail, but won't post a picture. He's just trolling again.

This penny is awesome, looks like platinum; I wonder what its made out of. I guarantee its not plated; I am intelligent enough to know.

Well, How would it be stated that "THEY" are undiscovered? "THEY" Must be out there someplace right? I believe there were trial strikings from that period; it was another period in which copper had to be reserved

There are some nicks on the coin and one is pretty deep; still silver metallic color though; it is solid in its metallurgical form

it stated that it wasnt suggested that there would be trial pieces from 1982 until an unusual piece arose in 1996

But continue reading...It was submitted for analysis and found to be a normal cent stripped of the copper and plated outside of the mint, thus a fake.

Photos appear like a plated coin.

You are correct but apparently trial strikings seem somewhat of a theory in 1982 but not concluded yet. I give you my word that this is not a plated coin.

Do you happen to realize the number of test strikings and foreign planchets? I dont know the number but I know there is a decent number
