Here are my two Panama Pacific anniversary commemorative of commemorative (lol) design 100th anniversary token. This is the Copper and Brass ones, just before I sent them out to ANACS. They came back MS 69.
Thanks for your advice on trying to correct the problem.. The spot that I was specifically referring to is just above the first T on the reverse of the word pattern .. It already shows some green patina I haven't had the piece very long, so I have to assume I purchased it with the flaw.. I don't scrutinize enough at times when purchasing and the seller is very reputable, so I never really looked at it that closely and the sellers pics are worse than mine... I'll have to see what Dan suggests to do as that spot will glare at me now every time I look at it It's a tough piece to replace..
Several novelty items not done by DC, but similarly done in a private mint. I am sure that the intent is similar as they were all sold as copies not intending to deceive.
Wow!! Lucky you What a fun course that must have been .. I would love to take that type of course with my family as we all have a little drawing and art in our backgrounds.. Very very cool set and it's the first time I've ever even heard of it.. I would have to choose the center piece as my fav of this particular group .. Sorry Dan The one next to Dans looks like the style of John Schipp, who does hobos and other various engravings and goes by the name of Harpuahound.. Now comes the questions .. Lol Which one did you engrave ? Is the course available to anyone and do they offer it every year ? What is the cost to attend? Who keeps the dies after the striking is all through ?? Do you get to choose which pieces are in your set or is it a random selection, which includes your own piece ?? Are you the one who commissioned Dan to do last years Halloween silver 1 oz token ? If so are you continuing the series for 2015 ? If you ever part with this set or know of any ANA members with one available down the road, please pm me the particulars . Thanks for showing this set .. It's the unusual stuff like this set that I mostly collect..
I'm not sure what your intent was in showing these Private mint tokens, but I AM SURE THEY DO NOT BELONG IN THIS THREAD.. The title of the thread is "Another Daniel Carr token for me" Maybe you should start your own thread with your special pieces
Picked these up from dan a few weeks ago at long beach except the morgan of coarse. That was in the case of a dealer friend of his when he wanted to show me an older piece he did that the dealer had. Can't thank you enough dan and you know I'm in on the large gold if you do it -Chris
In response, please allow me to quote a very "wise" man... Until or unless he makes his point, was that really necessary? "A new member posts a picture (some) of their favorite tokens, and another member" essentially tells him to take a hike? "How would you react as a collector?"
Well as a recent new member and collector myself I wouldn't feel very good about this place.. Not one, but two well known members told me that my first token pictured could be used as their toilet seat cover and yet the Moderator nor you found those statements to be offensive .. Mind you the token pictured was as the thread is titled and this poster's tokens have nothing to do with the thread title. Only a blind man that has no ability to read what this other new member has posted in this thread can clearly see that his posts are all anti Dan Carr.. His first post for starters was quoting the HPA and the following posts are all taking shots at DC including this most recent one .. Just his name suggests that he is policing the numismatic world.. I suggest he spend more time policing eBay as far greater crimes are being committed as we speak in the numismatic circles. I did not tell him to take a hike .. I told him to start a new thread with Private Mint tokens as my understanding of forums is not to post irrelevant things or attempt to hijack the thread. Even the postings of music videos in the thread , though humorous do not belong in the thread . Lastly I was originally going to take a hike after the earlier comments made to me, but I received an encouraging message from one of the members suggesting that not all the members behave in such a manner.. Books, Thanks for your input .. I'll keep it in mind before posting in the future
Badger, Thanks for taking the time to respond to all of my questions. The ANA scholarship/application process to get into the two year program may make it a bit difficult for my family, but possibly my older son or I could consider it down the road .. That is a wonderful course as it takes the creator through the entire minting process.. Outstanding !! Very nice job on your Roma piece for sure .. It was very well executed I seem to remember seeing somewhere in the DC catalog the ANA Kennedy dies that you mentioned having Dan create. At one time I thought it would be fun to try and collect one of each DC issues, but the reality is that it is nearly impossible. I won't live long enough and my bankroll just cannot support the venture . I will though continue to add pieces as they become available.. Living on the East Coast just makes it very difficult as the shows are very limited in my area and most will not include much of Dan's work . I'll keep my eyes open on eBay for one of the pictured sets .. Thanks again for all of your information !
I can't disagree with you there. I have to admit that I am better at sculpting than hand engraving. The first week of the course (the prior year) involved creating a plaster relief model. That approach is a better fit to my style (where I sculpt digitally in 3D using software that I wrote myself, and then use a CNC engraving machine to cut dies - "from digital to die, directly").
Here is what I recommend: Cleaning a coin is not necessarily bad if it is done right. And doing so can often stabilize the piece by removing surface contaminants. Go to Wallgreens (or similar) and get a small black plastic bottle of "Tarn-X" silver cleaner. Submerge the piece in Tarn-X for about 10 seconds. Remove and thoroughly rinse with tap water. Then pat dry with a clean soft cotton bath towel (never rub dry, only pat dry). Note that doing this can help prevent future harmful "milk spots" on silver coins such as Silver Eagles.
Let me clarify it just for you. He was showing Dan isn't the only one. That's the connection to the discussion.
Well let me clarify this for you .. Your opinions towards Dan's work are completely irrelevant to me and probably most all collectors of his work .. Your snide remarks and quips are just meant to stir the pot of hatred and for all we know you could be numis cop operating under a different screen name and email address . That is the beauty of the Internet.. I find it pitiful that you and your group of haters continue to attack his work and our collections . We will continue to collect and support his work in a positive manner and you and your posse can continue to pursue your negative campaign.. When you can add something different then what has already been stated a thousand times over, then maybe I will listen to your speech .. Leave us to collect what we enjoy and you collect whatever floats your boat . My kids told me that there are boys that collect "My Little Pony" dolls/figures and they are called Broneys .. I wouldn't be too happy if my boys collected them, but I wouldn't bash them for doing so .. To each his own .. Move along sir as you will not change our opinion and your negativity is just down right depressing.
