Nice! I have one to share but my phone won't cooperate with me so I'll have to to post later.

    Very nice!!

That's still one area I need to upgrade a bit---mine seem mostly to be a grade below yours (Valentinians) on either obverse or reverse, although of late I have been successful in upgrading most of the others before or after the LRB tag.

    Congrats again, Mat!!!

Hey Mat ... how is Sunday treatin' ya so far?

nice => that is a sweet Valens example ... great score (hmmmm, another dude-coin) ... obviously, you've collected most of the easy chick-coins, so you're merely waiting and gathering momentum to tackle a few more of the tough chicks, eh? ... same here ... hey, I haven't scored as many of the ladies as you have, but I have picked-off a bunch of the easy low-hanging fruit ...

=> sadly, the chick-coins seem to be a bit more pricey when compared against the fellas, eh? (I agree, that the chick-coins are a fantastic collecting avenue!! ... almost as good as animals!!?)

anyway => again, that is a great new Valens addition ... hmmm, I only have one example of this puppy ... it's a bit weak (I still love it, but it is a bit humble)

    => ummm, but as Gil-galad would say => I "ticked-off another ruler" ...

congrats again => have a great day, my coin-friend

Thanks man ... yah, it is one of my cool Batman scores ($20 Canadian, "delivered" ... ummm, so I'm guessing that's probably $6 or $10 bucks US)

=> yup, sometimes even a blind squirrel kicks arse!! (is that even a sayin'?)

    Cool additions, Mikey.

I couldn't specialize in these, too many mint marks/letters:dead:

Many find that one of the most appealing aspect of collecting---but it does tend to be a bit wearisome for me too.

Ok here I go. I think many of us have seen this one already...it was part of the first group of ancients I ever bought and it fits the budget category at about $5.42 (for those of you thinking of getting into ancients). This was also a photo I took and really liked because the image captured the coin's "in hand" appearance very well. That is, assuming you're looking at it in a reasonably well lit room with regular light bulbs.

    Valens, AD 364-378
    AE, 3.1g, 18.5mm; 6h; Siscia
Obv.: DN VALEN-S PF AVG; pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right
Rev.: SECVRITAS-REIPVBLICAE, F in in left field, M in right field; Victory advancing right holding wreath in right hand and palm in left
    In Ex.: HSISC

Not sure if this one fits into the "Not in RIC" category. Going off Wildwinds, I found this one to be similar to RIC Siscia 15b type xvi, except that one had a star over the F. I have not checked the Not in RIC database because at the time I was cataloging this one I didn't know of that website.

RIC IX Siscia 15b xvi is as close as you're going to get. This combination (without the star) is not recorded for Siscia. I suspect the coin is an engraving error - someone just forgot to add the star.

You would have to be some kind of masochist to collect these GLORIA and SECVRITAS types by mint and field marks, although I suppose that's exactly the sort of thing US variety collectors do. Here is only one page of one mint of combinations. Yours is squared in red - I really think the engraver just forgot the star.

BTW, it's an A at the start of the mint mark - easy to confuse with H as the Romans frequently didn't close the tops of their A's.
