how do you know when an old bank roll is genuine?

You don't. But that's because there is no difference in a roll that is rolled up by an individual and a roll from a bank. A bank wrapped roll might contain all BU coins with the same date and mint mark, it might contain a mixture of unc coins and circulated coins of different dates and mint marks, or it might contain a mix of just circulated coins - but all 3 rolls would be genuine bank wrapped rolls.

All too often people do not use the correct terminology when describing rolls for sale. And all too often the people looking to buy the coins do not undertsand the facts so they misunderstand the descriptions used to describe the rolls, thinking they are buying one thing when they are really buying something else.

"This Cent is MS-65,but it has been well circulated" is another line I've seen.

MS - Give us a break! It isn't MS anything.

Lol... I've always wondered, if they're truly unsearched, how do they know they're all wheaties?

Er... well other people already beat me to this observation, but whatever...

"Monster toning" to be always equates to butt-ugly toning, aka heavily tarnished and/or corroded. I never got why people think that's a selling point. If it is, I should try re-selling my car as "monster-toned" lol...

    Roy,

That one always amazes me as well! Or like the one where the Seller says "I have randomly placed an MS-65 Red 1909-S VDB Cent in one of the 20 bags (1/2 Pound, 1 Pound or 2 pound bags) of Unsearched Lincoln Wheat Cents that I have up for (Dutch) auction today". (The only problem with these auctions is that there are only 5 bags (not 20) available in the Dutch Auction and none have been sold.) So where are the other 15 bags, one of which probably (supposedly) has the 1909-S VDB Cent in it!!!!!!

Whether "monster-toning" is real or not is irrelevant to me; even if it were real I'd still consider it ugly, lol... not a big fan of toning, especially not toning so heavy you can barely see the design of the coin anymore.

"Trends $5500 in MS-67" (meanwhile the coin they're selling is uncertified and looks to be AU-50)

"key dates found in my wheaties including 1914d, 1909s, 1909s vdb, etc" (yeah right, I bet)

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

My favorite ever is the one where they list the prices of the coin in ms67-70, but they never once say anything about the grade of the coin. I sent a guy an email once praising him about his idea.
